Old-Harbor is a small, historic village located on Kodiak Island off the southern coast of Alaska. As of the 2010 census, the population was 218 residents. Some say that Old Harbor is one of the most picturesque villages on Kodiak Island. It's nestled on a narrow strip of beach, and to the northeast rise the awe-inspiring, jagged mountains that rise up at the end of a small bay. Old Harbor is known for its' prize-winning King Salmon, that is often claimed as the winner during the annual King Salmon Derby. This event draws anglers from across the country. Old Harbor is also a great place for wildlife viewing, including the archipelagos largest puffin colony, which is nearby on Flat Island. The region that is now Old Harbor dates back thousands of years to the settlement of the Alutiiq people. Just south of Old Harbor is Three Saints Bay, site of the first Russian settlement. Places to visit in the town include the Historic Three Saints Russian Orthodox Church, and Refuge Rock, which is the site of an important battle between the Alutiiq and the Russians. Boat charters are available for sightseeing and fishing excursions. Other activities in the area include kayaking, hunting, whale watching, and wildlife viewing. Old Harbor is accessed only via air or water.
